"Laguna Hills"

I like to paint small, as you can probably tell. That way I can finish in an hour or two while I'm still excited about the piece. Also, someone once told me it is better to make a small mess than a large one, and I agree!

Oil, 6 x 8 inches.

It seems that painting water was the theme of the weekend. This is a scene off the California coast at Laguna Beach.

"Island Styling"

Another Bahamas painting. I liked some things about the previous one, but wanted to add a boat as a focal point to give a sense of scale to the distant cliff.

Oil, 5.5 x 12 inches.

"Bahamas"

A small painting of Columbus Cove on Long Island, Bahamas. Good bonefishing down there!

Oil, 9 x 9 inches.

"Fruit"

This is my first attempt at painting a traditional still life with fruit. It was harder than I thought, and I need more practice, but it was fun.

Oil, 5.5 x 12 inches.

"Flowers in a Glass"

These still-life studies have been fun. I'm trying to make my flowers look edgy and contemporary. I have a lot to learn, but the learning process is one of the things that attracts me to painting.

Oil, 9 x 9 inches.

"Der Roses"

Another rose painting, this time in a vertical format with a taller glass.

Oil, 12 x 9 inches.

"Purple Rose"

I must say I'm enjoying my weekend of painting still-lifes! It's fun to play with the design of the flowers and background. It's also fun to play with the edges, leaving some crisp while softening others.

Oil, 9 x 9 inches.

"Modern Roses"

I don't usually paint still-lifes, but I didn't have a particular subject in mind today so I put a couple of roses in a glass and decided to paint that.

Oil, 9 x 9 inches.
